REDD.47
Valve Mic/Line Amplifier

History:

The REDD.47 is a plug-in valve amplifier and was designed for utility use in EMI's mixing desks of the 1960's.  Prior to REDD.47's, EMI had made use of the Siemens & Halske V72s in desks such as the REDD.17 and the REDD.37.  However, as early as 1959, work began on designing the '47 in an effort to have all aspects of their desks be designed in-house and thus 'Made In England'.

Although the REDD47 was utilized in several smaller desks such as the REDD.43 and the small 'add-on' REDD.59, perhaps the most famous use of the amplifier is in the REDD.51 desks which were installed at St. Johns Wood Studios, 3 Abbey Road.  A '51 was in use in the facility's studio number 3 by 1963 while studio number 2 at 3 Abbey Road saw the installation of a REDD.51 on January 17th of 1964.

The REDD.51 remained as the main desk inside studio No. 2 until late 1968 when it was moved to a small 'mix' room to make way for the transistorized TG12345 Mk I.
